Why Journal Dreams?

What is the value of writing down my dreams?

If these inner experiences are not recorded when they happen, most of them will be forgotten. Even if an experience doesn’t seem to mean much now, at some point in the future you might look back at it and recognize its spiritual significance.

Not every dream will predict the future or give some insight into the individual’s life. Dreams are another face of reality in the same way that our everyday life is another face of reality.

Though I often recommend keeping a dream journal, I realize it is unrealistic to expect every person to jump up in the middle of every single night to record their dreams. It can become drudgery.

But there is a way to make your dream study a little easier. If you can’t do it every night, you can pick one day of the week—Friday is very good—when you make a special effort to write down your dreams.

I have always kept a journal of my inner experiences, but it’s impossible to write everything down. Eventually I got into the habit of recording only those experiences that gave me a special insight, even if it would be meaningless to anyone else.

A Dream of High Spiritual Vision

I had a dream in which I was walking down a sidewalk with a friend at 9:00 p.m. I looked up in the sky and saw the moon, which looked huge. Beside the moon was a big planet with a ring around it. Everyone else in the dream seemed to take no notice but carried on as if it were just an ordinary day. I was excited and wanted to know why the moon and planet were there. Can you please explain to me what this dream means?

Yours is a spiritual dream.

The sidewalk is the path of ECK. Since it’s your dream and your path, the lessons will be yours—not your friend’s. Evening means the end of Soul’s karmic day: this life is your gateway to spiritual freedom. Looking up into the sky indicates your high spiritual vision. The huge moon is the promise of a brighter life in ECK, here and now.

The big planet with the ring is a symbol for the great worlds of God beyond our own. You alone, of all the others in the dream, were thrilled at the sight of the moon and planet because of your appreciation for spiritual things.

Dreams That Go from One Experience to Another

I was having a dream about one thing, and some other dream jumped in and interrupted. In fact, about five different dreams did that. I was dreaming about being in a pasture and then some ninjas jumped out and attacked me. What does this mean, if anything? Why do dreams do that?

Dreams do not really jump in on each other at all. What happens is that in the Soul body you are jumping from one inner experience to another.

Soul can be in several different places at the same time. This is not unusual, because Soul runs at least one body on each of the lower planes, and sometimes more. What you see as skipping from one dream to another is like switching TV channels to see what programs are on. Such skipping about gets old, so we usually settle down to watch whatever interests us the most, like your dream of the ninjas.

Your experience with the ninjas in that dream world was real. When we watch violence on TV, it means we are in agreement with it inwardly. This opens us to nightmares. It’s better to watch happier programs or read uplifting books, if we want more restful dreams.

Are the People in Dreams Real?

People in my dreams never act the way they do in real life. Why? Am I really with that person on the inner, or not? When I dream of other people, is it about them or what they represent to me? How can I distinguish between the two? How do I find a balance between the dream world and my physical life? If I have a disturbing dream about someone, how can I understand the spiritual gift and then let it go?

You really are with that person on the inner. But a couple of things come into play.

First, you may not remember the inner experience exactly as it happened. The dream censor is responsible for that. It represents the social consciousness. Its reason is that you’re not ready to handle the truth—which may be true. So your recall is clouded. That’s illusion. It protects you from emotional shocks.

Second, your distorted recall of the dream will represent a hidden truth, instead of giving the actual truth face-to-face. So you must decipher it by asking Divine Spirit for help in understanding. Ask It for help during contemplation.

Every well-balanced person finds a balance between the dream world and the physical life. Remember, the physical laws are for the physical world, while the laws of the dream world are for the dream world. Keep them separate. Unless you do, you’re likely to blunder into some terrible mistakes.

For example, let’s say someone in your dream expresses ardent love for you. You take that for his true feelings in the physical world. He may not be aware of them yet and will consider your sudden friendliness pushy. He’ll back right off, afraid of you. Actually he’s afraid of something he wasn’t prepared for—your love.

In this case, play it cool. Feel out the situation a little at a time. Test the waters. Also be ready to accept the fact that this relationship will never develop. Here again, the realities of the dream world may not be suitable for the physical world.

Study your dreams. You’ll learn what your dreams mean to your physical life with the Inner Master’s help. You keep in touch with him by doing the Spiritual Exercises of ECK.

Are Dreams Real?

I understand that while dreaming, we are actually Soul Traveling. Therefore, the places I go in my dreams are real and so are the instances that occur. If the people in my dreams are also real, does that mean there are other people having the same dream as me?

A dream is a real experience. Soul Travel is a more-than-real spiritual experience.

As Soul, you can (and do) have hundreds of experiences going on side by side at different levels. So does everyone else.

Here is a way to understand the variety of inner experiences: it’s as if Soul experiences what hundreds of people in a town do on a certain day. The mind, meanwhile, can recall only a few experiences at a time.

You may remember a certain inner experience with someone on the inner planes because of its spiritual importance for you. However, the other person will likely remember a completely different experience, because your needs are different.

In comparison to Soul, our mind holds only a few memories at a time. We remember those that mean the most to us spiritually.

Only rarely do the spiritual needs of two people exactly coincide. When they do, both dreamers will remember the same dream. However, their different levels of consciousness will give each a special view of what actually happened in the dream state.
