I know that in the course of our daily life we create karma, either positive or negative. What if one lives in a society where something bad, like corruption, is the norm?
No man is an island, and behaving more virtuously than others, or getting in the way of people’s selfish goals just by being unselfish, is dangerous.
And then you are slowly becoming like everyone else. Deep down you know it’s wrong, but you can’t do anything about it. What would you do? What should I do?
The Kal throws up all kinds of situations where one is in a bound-to-lose position. Don’t ever play along with petty misdeeds that are inching toward crime. You’ll always lose.
What would I do in your shoes?
I’d find a way to be far away from such people when trouble is most likely to occur. A plausible reason might be having to work to help feed the family. On the other hand, a good excuse might be to volunteer at a church or hospital. You may also have to move to a new town or village.
Whatever the cost, you must break those old karmic ties. And always listen to the Inner Master, who offers help as needed.

When you think a bad thought or say something negative, then realize the karma you’ve created for yourself, can you cancel it out by saying Baraka Bashad (May the blessings be)? Or is there something else you can do to correct it?
Yes, if the root of the impurity that caused the negative thought is gone.
That is a big if.
I do not wish to leave the impression that one can kiss and make it better by simply mouthing Baraka Bashad or May the blessings be. It is not that easy. Let me explain.
A negative thought or word or deed expressed reveals a blemish in some part of one’s consciousness. Such things stick like bad habits. They are quite comfortable where they are, thank you, and have no intention of getting booted out so easily.
Has a certain tune ever gone around and around in your head until you thought it would drive you crazy? A Baraka Bashad would likely not disperse it just like that.
No, it is a matter of sustained attention. What is the best way to do that, do you suppose?
Yes, by putting your whole attention upon the Mᴀʜᴀɴᴛᴀ, the Inner Master, until the negative thought gives up its hold on you. Depending upon how deeply it is lodged inside you, you may continue with this mental fast for either a short or a long time.

I am beset by a terrible loneliness at times but am at a loss to explain it. I am an isolated person—not that I want to be; it just seems to always work out that way. This has been with family, friends, and mates, as well as jobs and people connected to them. Everything is very short-lived, and it doesn’t seem normal. I do the best I can, but no matter what I do, things are always interrupted and ending all the time.
As far back as I can remember, it has always been this way. Whatever is going on I know has to do with some past life I lived.
I greatly appreciated your letter and will try to shed some light on the feelings of loneliness you spoke of.
Most of the karma we make is from this lifetime, although periodically there is a long-standing condition hanging on from another lifetime.
Imagine, if you will, the life of a leper in Palestine shortly before the Christian era. Anyone with a diagnosis of leprosy faced a life of separation from his family and friends. The repeated reactions of horror and disgust by citizens when coming across lepers would be enough to leave a deep scar for centuries.
Anyone who reincarnates into the present life from such an existence ought to look on the positive side. What a blessing to no longer be regarded as a scourge among people because of a disfiguring disease! Just this thought alone ought to make one appreciate a healthier body in this lifetime.

How can I forget all the unwanted memories of the past, so I can lead a great life going forward?
Thank you for being with me always!
Your mind may wish all unwanted memories be erased, but those acts and thoughts need resolution. It’ll take the help of the Inner Master, the Mᴀʜᴀɴᴛᴀ.
Human embodiment is a magnet for karma, which comes at birth already. And some is worked out each day, a bit or more at a time.
How does one obtain a good life going forward?
By doing everything in the name of the Master. That is karmaless action. At the heart of this new direction is love for the Divine in all things.
And be diligent in doing the Spiritual Exercises of ECK. They are key.

I was wondering about relationships. After you have been in a relationship with someone, does your karma continue with that person because you had more of a connection with him or her, or is your karma finished with that individual?
It depends. The end of a relationship means a change in routine. But do hurt feelings remain with either party—hurt feelings that refuse to go away? That shows karmic entanglements remain and must somehow be resolved later.
But should the parting be a mutual decision in the best interest of both, then the karma is over. A friendship may continue, if desired.
To return to unfinished karma, it may also be worked out in the dream state. That’s the Master’s call. If one is doing the Spiritual Exercises of ECK, the Mᴀʜᴀɴᴛᴀ will remove him from that karmic war zone.
The resolution of such karma can take on any of a hundred different faces.
The surest way to a higher state of being is to love the Sᴜɢᴍᴀᴅ and do everything in the name of the Mᴀʜᴀɴᴛᴀ.
